Fukigen na Mononokean (不機嫌なモノノケ庵), localized as The Morose Mononokean in English, is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Kiri Wazawa. It has been published by Square Enix since September 2013 and simulpubbed online by Crunchyroll since July 5, 2015.

An anime series was produced by Pierrot+ which aired from June 28, 2016 to September 20, 2016. A second season aired from January 5, 2019 to March 30, 2019.

Ashiya has spent the first seven days of high school stuck in the infirmary because of a yōkai attaching itself to him. He ends up asking the owner of a small tea room called the "Mononokean" for help. This is a tale involving the very morose owner of Mononokean guiding the yōkai that happened to wander into this world go to the next world.[1]

Stage Play Adaptation[]

A stage play adaptation ran from September 6, 2016 to September 11, 2016 and was performed at Akasaka Red Theater. The stage play was held twice in each day for a total of twelve performances. Actors Sho Jinnai, Jingi Irie, Seiya Motoki, and Motohisa Harashima all portrayed both Hanae Ashiya and Haruitsuki Abeno.[2][3]
